I can't find my site on ...
"I type my name into my browser, but it doesn't
show up. Why?"
This is a common complaint among website owners. Their sites are
not listing on search engines! Many have paid hundreds of dollars
to web designers but most don't realize that web design and search
engine optimization are really two different things. The best, award
winning, websites can have terrible search engine listings or no
listing at all - just because the design was not optimized.
"What is a SEO? - What do you feed it?? -
And where can I buy one???"
SEO - short for Search Engine Optimization, is a term used to identify
a website that has been optimized for improved ranking on search
engines. An optimizer is a specialist in the field of optimizing
websites for search engine inclusion and ranking.
It take months of research and many more months of applied techniques
combined with trial and error to build true search engine knowledge.
Once you achieve this base to really refine your knowledge you must
share and debate with your peers.
Our own SEO specialist spent months and months researching and testing
theories to determine the requirements and penalties assessed by search
engines. She still spends several hours a week participating in the
SF forums as an "Evangelist" moderator of 2 topics, "Gateways
/ Doorways" and "NBCi / Yahoo / Looksmart / About"
as well as various WebMaster forums.
What is the difference with the service Web InSite
is offering?
First of all, WebInSite will not embark on any search engine submission
adventure (indeed an adventure it is) without first reviewing the
website in question, especially if we did not design it.
- You will be given a list of demands that must be met! No, just
kidding :) But you will receive a detailed report of your sites
issues inregards to search engine submission with recommendations
for improvement.
- If your site meets certain criteria then your site will be hand
submitted to all appropriate search engines and directories. Not
plugged into a free for all submit program that just runs around
throwing your URL at search engines regardless of a site's requirements.
* Which can actually be damaging at worst and useless at best, *
We actually open up IE or NS and pull up the specific search engine
and type in the required information, proof it, and then click the
little submit button.
- Everyone says you should be in Yahoo
but they want $299.00. Yup, they do. Very few sites actually fall
into the "free" category - most are B2B or B2C. Yahoo
is not a search engine, it is a Directory. Yahoo
is a Human Maintained directory - meaning that some poor Yahooligan
is sitting at his/her Yahooligan desk
reviewing web page after web page after web page.. wouldn't you want
to be paid too. Only you can weigh the facts and decide if it is worth
the money - you know your product / service, budget, and reach.
** Ponder this as you are considering.. how many people do you know
that actually sit and click through the categories? Or do they maybe
find the search box as fast as they can and start typing? Fact:
if you search on Yahoo chances are that
you will get results from Google / Yahoo's
shared database - if the Google logo appears at the top with a Powered
by slogan then you are seeing google.yahoo.com results and not pure
yahoo.com results. Google.Yahoo.com is free :) ya just gotta be optimized.
